Sunderland won UK Smart City of the Year in 2020; Connected Britain Digital Council of the Year 2021 and is on track to become be one of the UK’s most advanced smart cities.
Anchored at City Hall, “Future City Forum” will be set in and amongst the latest stages of the rising buildings, new transport links and new public realm that are all coming to life and into action across the Riverside.
Programme
The forum itself sets to re-imagine the evolving notion of a future city in the Northeast of England, celebrating advancements in architecture, technology, and collaboration.
This event will bring government, city stakeholders and key businesses together to see the city centre regeneration gathering pace and to stimulate the business economy and conversation towards the Expo Sunderland Future City event programme when it starts at scale in Spring 2025.
Over 2 days, delegates will be inspired to learn from Sunderland and its neighbours as to how we can all actively contribute towards:
- Providing sustainable communities, hospitality and driving a circular economy.
- Creating a Smart City with digital inclusion at its heart.
- Considering urban design in advance manufacturing and application methods.
- Inspiring and upskilling the next generation of sustainable jobs in the region.
- Applying health and wellbeing and arts and culture in urban regeneration.
Small grants will be available from the UKSPF funding scheme for supporting local businesses to exhibit or show & tell at the Future Cities Forum. Criteria will be based around an innovation ready to market, that is scale-able and sustainability proven.
