Help us burst into bloom

As part of the Arts Trail, we have helped launch a Community Art Competition in conjunction with Culture House and the Art Room Sunderland. Thirty artworks will be selected to curate an exhibition in the Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens titled 'Local Landscapes: Favourite Spaces in Sunderland' for the duration of the Trail.

Share what you love about Sunderland and help us put the tree created by fine artist Su Devine into bloom.

Wheel out your masterpiece

Skateboard art is more than just decoration—it's a statement. It's where individual expression and urban culture collide!

We are delighted to be joined by Artist Sally Anderson, who will be painting a unique skateboard deck live. You can win this deck by transforming a simple board template into a canvas full of life and personality with advice and tips from Sally at our creative table.

Sally Anderson is a multidisciplinary artist based in Sunderland. She loves the outdoors and our local green and blue spaces and loves to see them from a paddleboard, skateboard, or roller skates. As a lifelong snowboarder and skater, she takes a lot of inspiration from the skate artists of the 80s and 90s, like Drew Brophy, Jim Phillips, and Opie Ortiz. She enjoys facilitating arts for well-being sessions across the North East with children and adults and believes everyone can enjoy the benefits of taking time out to be creative.

Dale Hardy and Su Devine, fine artists and directors of Sunderland Arts & Culture Trail, will judge your designs on their creative ideas, originality, and fun.

The competition is open to anyone attending the Expo Sunderland event and completing their Deck design at our creative table. The judges' decisions are final, and there is no money alternative. The winner will be announced on Friday, 31 May, and they will be required to collect their prize from City Hall and be prepared to participate in the promotion.
