Brian Fox (of Media Pollution)

Light of my Life

Bio

BRIAN FOX, a native of Chicago and now based in Los Angeles, is a DIY enthusiast with a passion for all things electronic and mechanical. His journey began as a self-taught electronics repair and design technician, driven by an innate curiosity in circuitry and a knack for problem-solving.

After spending his 20s building recording studios, designing electronics and working in repair shops, learning from masters, he moved to Los Angeles where he co-founded Homeboy Electronics Recycling, a pioneering venture that focused on diverting e-waste from landfills while providing job training and opportunities to folks who face systemic barriers to employment.

During his time at Homeboy he found that so much cool looking, nostalgic and functional stuff was being discarded.  He began hoarding those materials and in the process met up with Dan Dowding, who shared a very similar mindset. They began taking their love for this equipment and building sculptures out of it for events, productions, and frankly anywhere that was stoked to have them.

After nearly a decade producing activations and productions at Media Pollution he continues to push the limits of possibility by combining analog and digital technologies to craft unique experiences for audiences of all ages.

Synopsis

Light of My Life

Composed from two singular, uninterrupted explorations of analog-generated synthesis, which emulate the genesis and development of light as the origin of creation. This work investigates the emergence and cessation of light, and the representative entities it forms during this process. Musically centered around the heart beat and calling out that light is the heartbeat within us.  A reminder to take stock of what's present and all around us.  Light is the creator and the final boss.  It's up to us how we shine and ultimately what we create.
