Calibration Patterns Parade & Winter is the Void (V2)

Bio

Jaime Reyes is a Venezuelan artist based in Stockholm , specializing in new media art and installations. His work is characterized by a surreal, multicultural, and nonlinear aesthetic achieved through the innovative use of diverse technologies. Reyes crafts interactive installations and subtle interventions in underutilized spaces, using light as his medium to transform how we perceive our environment.

More recently, Reyes has embraced digital minimalism by creating animations that mirror the daily rhythms of his life. These algorithm-driven works unfold on monumental scales, challenging the conventional coolness of technology with an unexpected emotional depth.  Through this endless exploration of generative art, Jaime Reyes continually redefines what it means to merge creativity with technology.

Synopsis

CALIBRATION PATTERNS PARADE is an exploration of the often-overlooked yet crucial role of calibration patterns in projection art. Over a two-month period, I worked extensively with projection calibration for various installations at the MAD ARTS museum. One of the most significant moments occurred while collaborating with PlayModes studio on the same wall

projection. As I worked on this projection, the entire concept for the artwork came to life. I realized that the calibration patterns, though rarely discussed, are the silent architects of the work. To create this piece, I logged the hours the patterns were displayed and tracked how many times I went to a website to generate new ones. By adjusting parameters based on this data, I turned these technical tools into a visual statement, giving the quiet heroes of projection the attention they deserve

WINTER IS THE VOID explores the quiet, creeping emptiness that settles in during the long Swedish winters. The artwork evokes the experience of moving through a gentle snowstorm, where everything is softened by the constant fall of snow. Visibility fades, edges blur, and the world becomes a hushed expanse, serene yet enveloped in silence. The grainy texture gives the snow a dense, almost suffocating presence, as though its weight presses from every direction. This stillness, especially in remote forests or mountain regions where sound nearly vanishes, evokes a haunting sense of isolation, a psychological void that mirrors the stark, frozen world within.
